Toothpaste or Dentifrice

Toothpastes also called dentifrices are gels or pastes that help remove bacteria  and plaque that is formed one teeth and gums, giving us a healthy oral hygiene. Most of these pastes contain a certain amount of fluoride, usually:

  • 250-500 ppm or 0,025-0,05% fluoride in kids' toothpastes
  • 1000-1500 ppm or 0,1-0,15% fluoride in adults' toothpastes

Now you could ask me,what is fluoride and why i need it mate??Well, fluoride is a natural mineral that helps prevent tooth decay by strengthening tooth enamel.

Some of toothpaste's most important ingredients are:

  • Fluoride: to prevent or remineralize tooth decays
  • Humectants: to prevent water loss in the toothpaste
  • Flavouring agents
  • Mild abrasives: to remove debris and residual surface stains
  • Detergents: to create foaming action

*Many toothpastes contain "special" substances so as to treat certain oral diseases. These are :

  • Potassium Nitrate : reduces teeth sensitivity
  • Stannous Fluoride : help reduce gingivitis
  • Triclosan , Pyrophosphates : help reduce a hardened build up of plaque, named and tartar
  • Silica abrasives or enzymes : help whiten teeth

Here are some of the toothpastes i would recomend :

  1. Sensodyne (sensitive teeth)
  2. Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief (for sensitive teeth and gums, relieves from pain)
  3. Blend-a-Med  All-in-1 (cavities,tartar,gum problems,plaque,sensitivity,stains,fresh breath)
  4. Parodontax ( gum inflammation or bleeding )

A very good manual toothbrush would be Oral-B CrissCross and from the electric ones the Oral B Genius
