Frequent questions regarding to dental implants



-What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are screws, permanent placed into the jawbone and constitute a succesful restoration of lost teeth(in other words is a substitute for a natural root).Dental implants also serve to stabilize artificial dentures. Most of them are made from titanium,a material that has been shown over many years to be well tolerated by bone.



-Who is suitable for dental implants?

Dental implants can be placed in all adults regardless the age.However,there are three important factors that may influence the decision of the dentist to place dental implants.

1)General health.Pacient with serious health problems such as osteoporosis or with uncontrolled type II diabetes should be examined thoroughly before applying dental implants.Also bruxism(if the teeth are grinding) can be a limiting factor.

2)The quality and quantity of the bone that will accept the implant.

3)The oral hygiene.Obsessively smoking or drinking combined to neglected mouth hygiene are contraindicated factors for applying dental implants.


-How long does treatment take?

From the time of implant placement to the time placing the teeth,treatment times can vary between 6 weeks to 6 months.
